The Witcher 4 Wishlist: 10 Things Fans Demand
9. Continue Ciri's Story
The Witcher has always been a character-centric story. Now that Geralt’s tale is over – the Blood and Wine DLC was pretty clear about that – who should become the centerpiece for all the quests and drama?
The answer is intuitive. Ciri, Geralt’s foster child, student and ward, the girl witcher, is the next logical contender for the protagonist’s spot. Many fans see playing as Ciri in the next Witcher game as all but a done deal.
Making this work will require tight continuity from Wild Hunt, but there’s hardly any Witcher 3 ending that could prevent this entirely. The arguably ‘good’ ending for Ciri sees her become a witcher, which won't be hard to pick up on. Alternatively, she becomes the empress of Nilfgaard, but that's just one palace-haunting ghost away from leaping back to the old ways.
Even the bad ending, where Ciri doesn’t return from her final showdown with the White Frost, has wiggle room: she needn’t have died, and finding your way back from whatever worlds she hopped away to could be the perfect opening sequence.
Gameplay-wise, we have already seen what Ciri can do in the brief sequences where she is playable in Wild Hunt. Her distinct fighting style and a magical gift focused on blinking about in slow motion could easily be built upon and expanded in a dedicated game. And the way she hops around time and space like a humanoid TARDIS is a perfect plot device to spur the player on and set new challenges.
