THIS Is The Perfect Setting For Uncharted 5
Stamping the Passport
Nate’s constant mishandling of priceless treasures and ancient artefacts on each of his adventures does wonders in rooting an otherwise fantastical story in the history of the planet we inhabit. Marco Polo’s lost fleet and Sir Francis Drake’s travels to Arabia are central to the second and third entries to the esteemed series, and while the Himalayan mountains and Arabian desert were a sight to behold, they never felt truly inhabited. Drake’s time in bustling bazaar’s and the claustrophobic streets of Cartagena, Colombia are decidedly short-lived, so taking the next protagonist (whoever that may be) to a populated city would be an intriguing deviation for the series.
While scuttling up the side of New York skyscrapers as Nathan Drake’s daughter would surely be amusing. PlayStation already has an NYC wall-crawler who won’t be willing to share his playground. And besides, the historical underpinnings the Uncharted series is known for will take a city older than the Big Apple’s somewhat limited historical depth. Taking Uncharted back east is surely the way to go, and while the middle east has been explored in previous entries, the biblical city of Jerusalem has, as of yet, been left untouched.

The city has been destroyed, besieged and captured since its creation in ~3000BC (approximately 500 years BEFORE the Pyramids of Giza!), yet its importance in global religion has never faltered. Jerusalem has deep holy connections to Christianity, Judaism and Islam, and as such is a site of great importance to billions of people around the globe. Sitting in the lush Judaean Mountains, the ancient city is surrounded by a ~40ft high wall and has survived invasions from the Persians, Romans and, more recently, the British in the early 20th century. However, despite its biblical beginnings, Jerusalem has embraced the modern world with open arms, with technology hubs dotted around the ancient structures of its 125-square km area.
Uncharted could benefit greatly from the contrasting identities of the famous city, with a youthful protagonist in Cassie feeling a level of comfort in the modern aspects of the city while the historical nature of Jerusalem piques her archaeological interests.
