TMNT: Mutants In Manhattan - 10 Things Fans Are Going To Love
1. The Little Touches That Make It Feel Special
Not to flog this dead horse too much, but it really is true that this title exudes pure TMNT magic on an exponential level.
The look, the sound, the gameplay - all merge together to create the sense that this is a turtles game made first and foremost for the fans. These aforementioned elements are of course predominant in reaching this conclusion, but the little factors - the ones easy to gloss over - often tend to contribute the most to immersion. Platinum's multifaceted approach to MIM bridges decades of TMNT lore into a single accessible co-op experience, and those little niche elements are providing most of the laughs at this point.
The brothers dance when stationary (and that says nothing of the amazing disco moves Mikey has on offer), they use giant turtle parachutes when traversing death-defying jumps, and all of their arsenal genuinely feels like it's been cooked up by Donatello on a spontaneous midnight pizza-binge. These are all things TMNT fans are going to love without question, as Platinum are making a title comparable to the Cybertron games in terms of its authenticity and overall reverence for the source material.
High Moon's series focussing on the robots in disguise was equally lauded for its '80s-centric approach, and with its absence has come a big nostalgia-themed hole that needs filling. As Mutants in Manhattan nears its release date, it would appear as though Platinum are more than up to the task.
