Tony Hawk's Pro Skater: Every Game Ranked Worst To Best
12. Pro Skater HD
Now that we’re past the unappealing, unplayable slogs and no longer have to deal with the ineptitude that they imbue, we can move on to the simply, soulless games. These aren't completely irredeemable like the former three, but they don't exactly hold a candle to the earlier entries, especially when the mediocre entry in question is a poor rehash of the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
While it doesn’t emit an offensive or foul aroma like the previous ones, it's more disheartening than anything, as the concept of this game sounded extremely pleasing on paper. With it being a totalitarian, from the ground up, remake of a beloved video game from the youth of the most entwined generation of gaming. In the same way that communism might sound appealing until you realise it’s very drab, monotone and desecrating to what came before.
The first red flag encountered was when the developers announced an entirely new soundtrack additional to the original, retroactively destroying one of the key components that made the initial experience so engrossing. Surely, though, including manuals and spine transfers would enrich the experience, surely?
Right?
Well, no, not exactly. The physics engine makes it feel like you’re consistently controlling the Big Show. Its jarred mechanics and aesthetics are brought to fruition once it presents you with such an underwhelming opening in the form of a logo - as opposed to the original tetralogy which had a compilation of pro boarders tearing s*#t up - instantly making this the antithesis of every other entry that came before.
The lack of a physical release also didn’t help when it limped onto the market to the negative, alienated reception of legions of fans, new and old.
