Tony Hawk's Pro Skater: Every Game Ranked Worst To Best
11. Project 8
Coinciding with the release of the much forgotten Downhill Jam, Project 8 released in tandem with another franchise entry in a way that mimics Pokemon, but that’s about all it mimics. Its quality is certainly not in alignment with the Nintendo owned counterpart. Nowhere near. It’s not even on the same spectrum as those that preceded it in its own series.
The physics engine is nothing but laughable, as anytime you collide with an object, your skater soars through the air like Octodad after a few too many fishbowls. Which is nearly as off-putting as the very off the wall characters that don’t belong in the more grounded world around them, and the constant lagging frame rate drops that make the experience not one worth, well, experiencing.
It jumps ahead of the lesser received titles such as Pro Skater 5 and HD mainly because of its nail a trick feature. Something that wasn’t implemented in past games, and although it’s a very niche and creative idea, it’s easy to see why the game flopped once you've actually used the feature and watched your skater flounder like a fool on an infinitely repeating loop from time to time. It provides more ingenuity from a design point than any of the entries that came before, but it’s hard to praise it when it feels more like a design flaw than a wholly developed mechanic.
