9. Kingdom Hearts
Square EnixKingdom Hearts holds a special entry on this list because it challenged the close-mindedness of gamers, not just their non-gaming friends and family. The first game bravely exposed itself to a barrage of skepticism and curiosity. While many may have purchased it for their love of Final Fantasy or Disney, they stayed for the combined whole; it simply wouldnt be Kingdom Hearts without one or the other. Almost all of the game takes place in various Disney movie settings; where as the battle system, menus, protagonists and antagonists are based off Tetsuya Nomuras Final Fantasy designs. For whatever reason, the two universes blend seamlessly, and has since become a successful franchise with an infuriating amount of handheld titles. But try explaining this to your mates who either love Disney or Final Fantasy, unable to imagine the two together. A Disney fan would be understandably confused by the jarring visual styles of both companies. The game becomes especially weird once Ansem, the final boss, arrives on scene. Its bizarre enough to see Goofy and Donald team up with Sora to fight what looks like a character based off of Sephiroth. Now, imagine the two battling a demigod the size of the Titanic that looks scarier than almost any demon from Hell. Its hard to not feel sympathy for these characters.
