5. Resident Evil 5
It may surprise some people that RE5 managed to make it this high on the list. Fans have good reason to dislike the game, from the action-heavy gameplay to the ridiculous depiction of fan favourites Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, Capcom managed to annoy many fans of the series. The one saving grace of RE5 and why it makes it to this list at number 5 is the co-op mechanics in the game. The co-op in RE5 was hella fun. Playing the game with a friend and going through the different areas, be they the action-heavy or few horror moments, was greatly enjoyable. I still fondly remember walking through a swamp area while a friend ran ahead, oblivious to any danger while I started shouting out that there was an alligator chasing him! Ah, memories. On the flip side, playing the game alone was probably torture. In co-op, you could control the two main protagonists, Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. Communication would be smooth and teamwork very achievable. Playing alone, you controlled Chris, with the computer A.I. failing miserably at utilizing Sheva. A lot about the game was over the top. The gameplay was very action oriented and the plot was all over the place. It lacked the basic survival horror elements previous games had and didn't have many memorable moments either (aside from Jill's appearance and fighting Wesker in a freaking volcano - neither being good memories). Overall, the game was cheesy as hell and couldn't live up to previous entries, with co-op being its only saving grace. But that co-op is pretty damn good, so it deserves some credit.
