Uncharted 4: 10 Suggestions To Avoid A Total Misfire

4. Make Stealth A Valid Option

Stealth has always been an option in Uncharted, just not a particularly useful one. Most situations start out with Drake hidden from a bunch of enemies, with Naughty Dog seemingly urging players to try and sneak their way through. However, the super-inconsistent AI will almost always know exactly where you are as soon as you step forward. This in turn leads to reinforcements being called in and ultimately frustration for the player heightened all the more by Drake whispering just a few seconds earlier €œWe better do this quietly€. In Uncharted 3 in particular, most scenarios are designed whereby stealth is made genuinely impossible by having guards permanently face each other or with their backs to doors the player need to pass through to progress. At some points henchmen will even know instantly where you are despite them not being able to see you - it€™s almost as if they have the super-sonic hearing of The Last of Us' Clickers. Speaking of which, The Last Of Us is again a perfect example of how to balance stealth and action. Giving players the choice to choose whether they want to approach a situation quietly by sneaking around breaking peoples' necks or running in head-on with a shotgun and grenade launcher in hand would be a fantastic addition to the series, especially if Naughty Dog expanded upon their other franchises's already solid stealth system. Just let the player choose how they want to approach situations and give them the opportunity to pass on being a mass murderer every now and then; surely that€™s not too much to ask?
