Uncharted 4: 10 Suggestions To Avoid A Total Misfire

5. Improve The Ageing Gameplay

When you boil down the Uncharted series to its core gameplay and look past the shiny visual exterior, it is made up of three rather underwhelming gameplay elements; third-person cover-based shooting, climbing/platforming and puzzle sections. When looked at on their own, all three of these elements are pretty average in comparison to other video game franchises who specialise in such areas. Firstly the shooting mechanics in the Uncharted series have always been quite loose and unresponsive, most notably in 3 where the developers actually patched the game to fix how the aiming simply was not working as it should. Speaking of shootouts, please stop using the age-old trick of having waves and waves of spawning enemies. Such sections so tedious and just seem like laziness on your part to pad out a particular section, which we€™re sure does not accurately reflect or do justice to the genius talent present at Naughty Dog. The puzzle sections in the Uncharted games have never really been anything to write home about either. Most are pretty uninspired and bizarrely if you don€™t solve them instantly then the game will spam you with very blunt hints telling you step by step what to do, completely removing all sense of the challenge. Some more original puzzles would be great, especially ones that don€™t entirely depend on Drake looking at his diary, moving an object, looking at his diary, moving an interact object a bit more etc. which usually makes up around 90% of the puzzles. While the platforming sections have always been solid (apart from the fact that literally everything Drake touches collapses and crumbles with the slightest touch) it would be really interesting if Naughty Dog could add more alternate routes and different ways to climb structures giving the player a bit more choice. Making the levels larger and more open would be much appreciated overall as it would promote multiple playthroughs.
