When humanity does eventually reach out towards the stars we can only hope that it will be in under the banner of peace and harmony for every human and alien in the Milky Way. But in Warhammer 40K to seek peace with aliens is to be a heretic and punishable by death.

The humans in Warhammer 40K have centuries of bad blood with the aliens that live in the Milky Way, from the barbarian Orkz to the enlighten Eldar, anything not human is viewed as an enemy and should be immediately purged with maximum efficiency.

This ingrained hatred of everything non-human sadly included many demi-humans such as mutants and Abhumans who are humans that mutated either due to the effects of the corrupting Chaos Warp or by living on isolated colonies for centuries and evolving differently than the rest of the Imperium.

These beings are still partially human and as such are tolerated very differently across the galaxy. Most planets turned specific strains of Abhumans into hardworking slaves for the Imperium, while others purged those considered non-humans in holy fire.
