What 10 Great Video Games Look Like Without Visual Effects
3. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
A great mix of acting and physical performance, going behind the scenes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order highlights how the game's lightsaber battles were brought to life.
The assumption when you see action sequences in games is that they must have been performed in the studio by stuntmen, and then the actor's performance is layered over the top, a bit like how L.A. Noire was created. Hell, that's pretty much exactly what lead Cameron Monaghan thought before he signed up as the lead for Respawn's game, as the actor states in the video above.
Instead, Monaghan was involved every step of the way, learning the choreography and performing the final fights with the other actors. The cameras not only captured his movements, but also his facial performance during the action, adding to the overall intensity of the scenes.
Despite being a game, it's probably not that far away from working on a real Star Wars set.
