Which Popular Gaming Franchises Need To Take A Break?

How can we miss them if they won't go away?

Quick, name a game that's coming out this year! We bet most of you ended up saying either Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed, as even if you don't know the subtitles to such games (Advanced Warfare and Unity this time around), we've now had annual instalments for the better part of a decade. Aside from sports franchises such as FIFA or Madden, both COD and AC are currently taking part in the longest, most frequent set of sequels there has ever been. And people keep buying them too, because when it comes down to it, something like Assassin's Creed: Black Flag is still a very well made product; full of real-world research that might actually teach you a thing or two about the time period it's set in. This isn't always the case of course, as Assassin's Creed III's retail version had bugs so big you had to call in the Men in Black, but for the most part the AC games have remained fun and fairly replayable despite a huge lack of innovation each year. That being said, if the series was to take a break, reassess what makes it so enjoyable, and come back in say two to three years time, we'd all be far better off. It frees up one of the Ubisoft teams to create a whole new property instead, and would get us out of this rut where we're buying essentially the same title every year in the hope that something's worthwhile will be included based on an established affinity with the franchise. Which titles are you sick of seeing endless sequels for, and what should the developers work towards instead? Many well-known teams built their reputation on a whole host of cult classics, the bringing back of which would be far more enjoyable than yet another one of the manufacturing line.
