Why Split-Screen is Still King of Multiplayer Gaming

For True Face To Face Competition

Don€™t you ever get the unearthed feeling that competing online is such a cowardly way of battling another player? Anyone can talk the talk when you€™re 500 + miles away, the amount of times a 14 year old kid has beaten me at a game and sent me a rather incoherent, yet nonetheless colourful, message. I won€™t o into exact detail, but it usually explicitly states their age, that I€™m new and that I should eat excrement. I just can€™t help but feel that it would be advantageous if I was in the same room with some of these people so I could just clarify the matter in detail; what are the true nutritional benefits of eating one€™s excrement? Needless offences aside, competition thrives when people are together. If you win several games of FIFA online you receive fleeting praise and self satisfaction; if you win several games with friends you garner reputation of being a champion - a slightly arrogant, self-serious champion, but still a rightly owner of champion status. Split-screen play also offers old school cheating. When you€™re playing with a younger sibling who harnesses the unfair advantage of quick reaction speeds on playing the last lap of rainbow road, the cheeky hand across the eyes manoeuvre always does the trick. Another classic that everyone knows, yet tries not to admit, is screen watching. It worked wonders on Perfect Dark, the same old utterance of €˜I hope you€™re not looking at my screen!€™ is a conflict that you can always get away with as they can€™t prove it otherwise, and if they tried to look at you they€™re not looking at their screen anymore! These mischievous deeds were always so much more fun than wall hacks and glitch exploits that online players use, all of which could also be done offline too of course, but split-screen competitive experiences at least have the option of dignity.

I lie, I'm only a free-lance writer with a love for those predecessors, and a love for video games for that matter! I'm here to spread that love in article form for you all.
