For Those Sociable Rainy Days
If youre unlucky enough to be living in rainy Britain, or anywhere else that rains frequently of course, then sitting indoors tends to be the more favourable, wiser option. This of course either ruins or hinders meeting friends, and if you are usual gamers then inviting them over to have them watch you beat Mass Effect for the 5th time isnt that exciting. And yes, you could still invite them around and play charades, twister and monopoly or some other archaic board game, but Im talking old school gaming of a contemporary nature. No, the real core gamer needs 4 player split-screen Call of Duty campaign co-op. Remember that amazing Russian mission from Call of Duty 2 where you had to storm and destroy that huge German occupied building, imagine doing something like that with three extra players. Or something long term and progressive like Borderlands, each person taking on one of the four given characters and working it through the day. That kind of shared comradely and commitment you get from close friends is something you can only really experience when theyre with you. The amount of games Ive jumped into online hoping to experience a game of complete co-operation, unification and all the earned gratification that comes with it to instead receive unexplainable lag, counterproductive rebelliousness and all other unfortunate symptoms of wide area network play. Its become more stable in recent years, but its not entirely reliable It is arguable you can have a reliable online experience, as a group of core gamers are all likely to have online play of the sorts. But that only removes the annoyance of unpredictable players and its harder to garner the same strength of all day game playing commitment when theyre not within close proximity and even if they wanted to go home, its raining anyway.
