3. Hey, Didn't That Used To Be Goldust?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch2QltZZ7DU Goldust has always been a unique character that created a great deal of controversy. The son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes had a gimmick in the Attitude Era that was so abstract that it split fan opinion almost entirely down the middle. Some may say that he embodied the Attitude Era before it even began. Whether he was booed or cheered, his character, alongside his wife Marlena, consistently produced edgy and watchable television. However, between November 1997 and October 1998, he became too edgy for anybody to stomach. This began with Goldust splitting with Marlena and refusing to cooperate with his on/off tag team partner Vader. Now a fully-fledged heel, he aligned himself with Luna Vachon and became even more abstract than ever before. Referring to himself as "the Artist formerly known as Goldust", a rip-off of what Prince was doing at the same time, he would begin to appear dressed in costumes far too disgusting to expect readers of this article to endure. Instead, type it into Google and don't blame me for the hours of washing your eyeballs. However, his next gimmick was arguably even worse. Goldust burnt his jumpsuit on TV, and began to wrestle simply as Dustin Runnels. He would spout evangelical scripture at every opportunity, and while I respect a person's beliefs, I also would not like them shoved down my throats. Runnels was so stale and irritating a character that when his separated wife Terri Runnels began sleeping with Val Venis, fans actually cheered for the cheating pair over Runnels. Needless to say, it wasn't long before we saw the re-emergence of "the Bizarre One" again, and 'normality' was once again resumed.
