WWE 2K14: 5 Required Additions To Immerse The Player

4. Ring Crew

garcia roberts In WWE 13, and ever since the PS2 in fact, we have had (poorly) animated commentators sat at the announce table looking pretty lonely. Anyone who watches WWE will know that the outside of the ring, even during a match, can be a hive of activity. What we€™re missing at present are the 2 camera men, lovely Lillian / stupid Justin Roberts, the timekeeper and the all-important medical staff. Now, the latter 3 members of the crew aren€™t too animated during the show unless the action comes near them but just imagine how much better the feeling of brawling around the announce position would be if these guys scrambled out of harm€™s way (and through an invisible wall to the time keepers area) every time you wanted to bash your opponents head on the announce table? Also, to link in with the previous page, you would see Lillian or Justin climb out of the ring during the entrances and take their seat ringside. Further adding to the spectacle but would technically only really be a nice addition with some simple animations. Why don€™t we charge the developers with something a little more challenging to help occupy the ringside area? If there were no camera men, then RAW wouldn€™t be on TV. Each and every show that is broadcast on TV we get to see at least 2 camera men hurry themselves around the ring trying to get the best shots of the action. I would like to see these same two camera men in game; hugging the ring apron, pointing a camera at the wrestlers in ring and occasionally moving to a new location. Even more exciting would be the prospect of them getting up close and personal when the brawl crashes to the mats on the outside. Having these guys follow you around while you launch your opponent into the ring post wouldn€™t be too hard to programme I don€™t think especially if you make them untouchable. Instead they would manoeuvre themselves just out of harm€™s way at all times. Also, it would mean running about without a care in the world would become slightly more difficult with 2 guys potentially in the way. Again, it would bring more to the entrances if, when the hard camera or arena camera is used during said entrance, you see the camera crew filming at the same time. No longer would we have phantom cameras shooting the action. Just to spice things up further, why not a couple of photographers at a Pay Per View event to make the thing feel a little more special and have the flash of the cameras go off every so often. You could argue though that this could be a real drain of processing power but, let€™s be serious, the PS3 and 360 have more than enough power to process such models and actions. Especially considering they can run games like Killzone, Uncharted and Halo with all the ridiculous on screen goings on as well as with said games being the proud owners of much better graphics than any WWE game so far. And, as we move towards the Xbox One and PS4, there will be ample processing power spare, why waste it? Click below for the next addition...
