9. The New World Order (Hogan Turns Heel)
WWE.comThe arrival of WWF "defectors" Scott Hall and Kevin Nash and their invasive promos were integral to WCW's rising success (as Nash would say, "look at the adjective, promos"). While The Outsiders really didn't have any squash matches the game could showcase, a kickoff match for this storyline section could easily be Bash at the Beach '96, with The Outsiders + a mystery partner facing off against Lex Luger, Randy Savage, and Sting. In possibly the most infamous swerve, Nash and Hall evened the odds by injuring Luger while at the same time establishing an upper hand because they still had an ace in the hole. Dominating the match, things appeared to turn against them as fan favorite Hulk Hogan came out. After staring down The Outsiders, he inexplicably leg dropped Savage and shocked the crowd by turning on them. Hogan grabbed a mic and lambasted the crowd, named the new trio the New World Order, and set off a meteoric rise that changed the game forever. Players could start the match fighting as the good guys, going through the expected handicaps of 2K's recent wrestling games, and then control Hogan as he turns. This would be one of the most impactful moments of the game.
