WWE 2K16: 10 Crippling Gameplay Issues That Must Be Fixed

2. The Unfair Pin System & Auto-Countering A.I.

Across the older games, you'd eventually build up a feel for what the A.I. was going to do and when - meaning you could kinda 'game the system' and win every time. To remedy this, 2K have upped the amount of times your opponents will counter across the board, regardless of their personalities or character traits. It's particularly noticeable against technical guys like Bret Hart, but there's an overwhelming feeling that the A.I. is always going to counter you, no matter how fatigued/blown up they are near the close of the match. Where nailing specific prompts is already a slog in itself, many matches completely reverse expectations right at the end, not because it comes down to a 'who can get their finisher off first' showdown of using up counters and slipping in devastating moves, but because the A.I. kicks out of everything no matter what, leaving you to struggle with the reversal system and the brutally unforgiving new pin icon. It's definitely that age-old thing of how to truly say A.I. is unfair, versus just being annoyed you didn't win - but when they kick out of everything other than finishers or signatures like it's nothing, leaving you to fight with the new pin system and lose to simple timing-based minigames, it feels decidedly unbalanced. How to fix it: Make having all of your coloured 'life bar' depleted mean something for your opponent. If you've absolutely devastated someone, you should be able to humiliate them by winning with a basic suplex or anything really, just as much as something that would be expected to end a match.
