WWE 2K16: 15 Legends Who Could Be The Flagship Star

9. Bruno Sammartino

Who€™s the greatest babyface champion in professional wrestling history? There€™s a really good case for crowning Bruno Sammartino without even taking down any other nominations. Sammartino held the WWWF world title for a total of well over 4,000 days, with the major reign lasting nearly eight years €“ 2,803 days, from May 17th 1963 to January 18th 1971. No one€™s ever going to break that record. The man sold out Madison Square Garden an unprecedented 187 times during a career on top spanning two decades. To many, Sammartino was a genuine superhero: his connection with the crowd was stupendous, his popularity with the WWWF so phenomenal that at one point, serious negotiations were in play to have him go over NWA champion Lou Thesz and unify the two biggest world titles in the United States. It€™s a little late to take advantage of his 2013 Hall Of Fame induction now, and Sammartino€™s measured, mat-based style doesn€™t provide a massive moveset that modern day fans might expect. However, include such luminaries as Bob Backlund, €˜the Nature Boy€™ Buddy Rogers, Pedro Morales, Gorilla Monsoon, Ivan Koloff and €˜Classy€™ Freddie Blassie, and you€™ve got yourself some premium exclusive downloadable content for WWE 2K16. Call it the Class Of €™63. Now that€™s old school.
