WWE 2K16 Hands-On Impressions: 12 Things You Need To Know

12. The Roster Is Staggering, And Beautiful

Perhaps the first thing you notice when you boot up the game is just how many wrestlers they've crammed into this game, and in terms of entrances and character models, very few of them look rushed. There's over 125+ wrestlers in the base game, not including expansions and they've covered the full gamut of eras, from golden age stars like Andre the Giant and (the housewives' favourite) Colonel Mustafa, all the way up to current NXT prospects like Tyler Breeze, Baron Corbin, The Vaudevillains, and Enzo & Cass. No Hull Cogan though. Can't say I blame them. Some of the character models suffer slight from Puffy Cheeks Disease, and a few more from Engorged Forehead Syndrome, but the majority of the stars looks superb. We got our hands on a PS4 copy of the game and some of the models are stunningly accurate. The skin textures and lighting effects are the now-standard current-gen impressive, but accurate replicas that don't plummet into the uncanny valley are damn hard to create, and 2K16 has by-and-large pulled it off. For my first match I chose Finn Balor vs Big E and both men were photo-realistic, with Balor's demon entrance looking particularly schwifty. In the face of grumblings about last year's depleted roster, 2K went beyond the call of duty to give players, if nothing else, the right amount of wrasslers for their money. The wrestlers' hair still has a touch of the seaweed about it, but that's a pretty small complaint.
