1. Yearly Releases Kill Innovation On Current-Gen Consoles
All of these problems come from the new-age 'need' to put something out every year, treating what's clearly a more robust product than your average FIFA or Madden, as something fans will snap up regardless. Everything, from the lack of real-world competition to the DLC plans and lack of moves like Create a Finisher are all caused by 2K forcing Yukes to put something out every year, much like Ubisoft do with Assassin's Creed, or EA do with their sports titles. This approach to treating WWE as 'just another' sports title does both the fans and the product itself a huge disservice. Wrestling fans are not UFC fans, nor are we football, hockey or any other 'type' of fan. We notice every costume change, every small animation that's motion captured or hand-animated, every slight change in entrance - everything. Yearly releases allow for cosmetics to be overhauled, but they don't do anything for entirely new game engines or completely reworked physics models. At some point 2K need to realise the current generation of hardware just doesn't operate like the old, and taking a year out would build hype and anticipation for the 'great return' - pleasing everyone involved.
