8. Playing To The Attitude Era Only Has So Much Appeal - Feels Desperate
Have you noticed how nostalgically-fuelled every major part of 2K16's rollout has been? "Hey guys, we know we messed up with 2K15 and made Vince look like a sentient pork pie, but here's the Attitude Era! It hasn't aged a da- oh." Cue copious amounts of winking and nodding as 2K essentially admit - along with everyone else - that the WWE really isn't ever going to be able to top those late 90s/early 2000s golden years. I'm obviously not saying they weren't spectacular - and regardless of it being a sports entertainment show, the best week-to-week run of any TV show of all time - but at some point you just have to move on, both culturally and in the digital realm. Why not use the licenses they're clearly in possession of to tap into the Invasion storyline, but do it bigger and better than ever before? Have the cover art feature the trifecta of WWE vs. WCW vs. ECW, but have the story mode play out all sorts of alternate realities, just for kicks? Rather than having Stone Cold make the save at Survivor Series 2001, you could save the WWE, or defect yourself and see how things play out.
