7. Focussing On 'Realism' Isn't What The Games Need
Ever since the UFC came up and changed everything about how the mainstream public deal with both sports entertainment and the very idea of depicting martial arts/hand-to-hand competition, the games in turn have changed to accommodate. Honestly though, before 2K started really taking over the direction of these titles, it was a joy to see things like Triple H's angular mounted punches actually connect like they would, or watching something like Undertaker's piledriver be absolutely devastating, as it should be. Both WWE All-Stars and the mobile-only Mortal Kombat-style Immortals went a little bit too far into the realm of escapism, treating the roster like genuine superheroes - but you can't deny the appeal of watching these guys is supposed to ebb and flow between believability and insane spectacle. Pandering to 'realistic' match flows and 'the grapple game'-style mechanics just aren't what we're here for, and indulging in backstage brawls or pulling off all your favourite moves in a far more brutal, OTT fashion will always be far more satisfying.
