8. Sgt. Slaughter: Iraqi Sympathiser

The story line that set the blue print for Rusev's run in WWE to date: The ol' USA vs. the world schtick. It's also the story line that legitimately endangered Sarge's life. The story goes that while this was playing out that he couldn't leave the house without wearing a bulletproof vest and surrounded by security. What made this angle so controversial was due to the fact that it coincided with the Gulf War. Sarge defected from the USA militant patriot to an Iraqi sympathiser, siding with General Adnan to support the Iraqi cause against the America. Slaughter even came close to burning the American flag at one stage, but turned down the proposed angle as he couldn't bing himself to do it. The feud culminated with Sarge going one-on-one with Hulk Hogan with his WWF Championship on the line at WrestleMania VII. This would be a hard hitting angle to include in what would be a primarily PG game, but one that would be warmly accepted by the WWE Universe nonetheless.
