WWE 2K17: 10 Improvements It Needs

5. Commentary

Even though a lot more work was put into the commentary with 2K16, there is still plenty of room for improvement. Announcing work for the new game was completed as early as March, with Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler recording hours upon hours of new content side-by-side in a booth. For the first time ever too, a third man was stuck behind the desk with JBL coming aboard. And it's Bradshaw we start with... He either needs to be given a more prominent role or taken out completely. It just feels like Cole and Lawler recorded all of their lines for the game, and then after hearing they did so, Bradshaw went to the 2K developers and begged them to be included. The creators then debated putting him in and then eventually caved in, giving him three or four lines as a token gesture. Bradshaw adds nothing to the game and really does feel like nothing more than an afterthought. The restrictions that come with commentary for combat sports are there for all to see - bad commentary isn't reserved for 2K's wrestling titles, it's a problematic area across the board. It's hard to have pre recorded lines react to organic, live action in the ring. For sure however, 2K could do a lot more with what they're working with.
