2K have rightly made some big noises about the Steve Austin career mode in WWE 2K16. It's a brilliantly-realised trip down memory lane, and an excellent addition to the game. Sadly, these career slices seem to have replaced a proper story mode over the past few years. WWE 2K16 does have a career offering, but it's only for created wrestlers, which isn't quite the same as those in previous titles. Take Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth, for example. Picking a wrestler from the wealth of options available, players could embark on a career with that star. The original WWE Draft was included, which offered a brilliant beginning to the story. The idea was expanded upon for Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain, but it's been struggling ever since. Here Comes The Pain was arguably the apex of the mode. Since then, lesser story modes have been introduced, but WWE games relied heavily on nostalgia to sell the games. That's a shame, because there's a certain thrill from being able to take a wrestler from the barren wasteland of the 'B' and 'C' shows to Monday Night Raw, Smackdown and pay-per-view. Truthfully, players should be able to pick absolutely anyone they want and take them on a story trip to remember. What else would you like to see return from older WWF/WWE games?
