WWE 2K17 Review: 6 Ups & 7 Downs

Ups...

6. Hugely Improved Core Gameplay

As easy as it is to dump on what 2K17 has screwed up, it's fair to say that it also gets an incredible amount right in terms of the core gameplay.

For starters, the traditionally frustrating, fiddly targeting system has been replaced with a manual one that allows players to change who they're looking at with the simple press of a button. It's just common sense and a nice quality-of-life fix for a long-nagging problem.

Then there's the brilliant new roll-out mechanic, which during multi-person matches will cause players to roll out of the ring after taking heavy damage. As their stamina recovers, the player can then decide when to re-enter the ring, either rushing in to break up a pin or ladder attempt, or holding on longer to get a fuller gauge. It adds a ton of strategy to these match types while also better reflecting the pacing of actual WWE matches.

And finally, after 2K16's submission received an extremely mixed reception from fans, 2K have added in an alternate submission system much closer to the button-mashing simplicity of earlier games.
