Overall, WWE 2K18 isn't a huge leap up from 2K17. Maybe it's unrealistic to expect that in 12 months, but we were really hoping for some true innovation this time around. Yes, the new lighting and selling animations are a nice touch. Yes, entrances look good. No, these additions don't change the core experience.

This is still the same old WWE 2K series with a few new bells and whistles. It's going to take a few years off (which will never happen, because the 2K series is a money-maker) before the developers have a chance to build anything from the ground up again. We can but hope for something new in the next couple of years.

For now, 2K18 looks like another run-of-the-mill WWE video game. If you like the simulation feel and slow pace, then you'll still enjoy this one. If you're crying out for Here Comes The Pain in 2017, then it's going to be hard to suppress some disappointment.

Who knows, perhaps 2K will surprise us all when the full game is released on October 17.
