WWE 2K19 Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

1. Graphical Engine Is Creaking

Hair has never been a strong part of the WWE gaming realm. For some reason, any developer who has taken over the license has struggled to make locks flow naturally; women in 2K19 suffer the most here. Their hairdos appear stuck on rather than part of their heads, and the greasy strands they've been given often pass through their limbs.

This is a sure sign that 2K's graphical engine, for all the fancy lighting and super-detailed sweat mechanics, is creaking under the weight of modern expectations. It's time to shelve these jerky, unrealistic mannequins and turn them into living, breathing people who can compete with other AAA games.

In other words, it's time 2K tasked a group of workers to come up with a brand spanking new engine.

At times, 2K19 looks breath-taking. At others, it looks like what it is: a PS4/Xbox One game that's still using dated technology and borrowing graphics or animations (or both) from 15-20 years ago. That's incredible to think. Such is the curse of annual releases, it seems.
