WWE 2K19 Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs
3. MyCareer's Outlandish Story
Being totally honest, MyCareer was sh*t before 2K had a little pow wow and agreed wholeheartedly that something had to change with it. 2K19's offering is a vibrant blast of funny (if a little corny at times) scriptwriting, likeable characterisation and interactive fun that'll have you wondering why 2K thought 2K18's snorefest was acceptable.
This sure beats running from one's car to Gorilla and back again.
There's some indy wrestling, a few magical moments starring the 'Woken Universe', hidden references to WWE history, a sympathetic protagonist, enough twists and turns to make your head spin and even some podcasts to listen to. That's where MyCareer soars. Hearing phoney ex-WWE stars discuss 'Buzz' and his journey through the wrestling world adds so much depth to the lore.
Think what Activision and Neversoft achieved for skateboarding games with 2003's Tony Hawk's Underground. That's what 2K have managed to do for pro wrestling games here. They've ditched the tired churn of matches and written a love-letter to hardcore fans. It's like Dude, Where's My Car? meets Tough Enough.
