GM Mode is a feature that's been missing from the series since SmackDown vs Raw 2009, and, after a drought of 14 years, it's returning in WWE 2K22 in the form of MyGM, allowing players to build their brand from the ground up, hire & fire superstars and make million dollar decisions of who to push to the moon.
That would not have made the cut for 2K21. It's far too big a feature to include for a yearly release and there would likely be major fan backlash if they screwed it up. Instead, the lost game would likely have been the ideal vehicle to test out their brand new mode that wouldn't have been quite as programming-intensive, MyFaction.
According to the 2K22 Hit List, MyFaction gives players the goal of building the most dominant stable on the roster. Not much else is known about it at this point but it seems like the easiest new feature to implement to tempt fans back. And with the roster that would potentially have been on offer, it would have been a lot of fun.
