WWE 2K21: 10 Predictions For What We Could Have Got
6. Reverted Controls
For 2K20, the developers wanted to make the game more accessible to new players and so altered the controls to make things easier to grasp. The intentions were good, but the execution was far from it.
For some strange reason which threw long-time fans, actions that took one button in the previous title, now take a maximum of four to execute. Finishers were performed with a single tap of the Triangle/Y button, but now you need to manoeuvre your thumb to X+Square/A+X simultaneously. And for secondary finishers, the trigger buttons are also held down. All that unnecessary fiddling made the game so frustrating at times.
Judging from the footage of 2K22, the control overhaul looks to make the game flow a whole lot smoother and be that entry-level WWE game they wanted the last game to be. But while working on that, it's likely the developers would have taken a big leap back and reverted the controls to their layout in 2K19 while working on the new controls that we'll see in March.
