WWE 2K22: 10 Things We Already Know
1. It's Not Guaranteed For Next-Gen Consoles
Nobody would be thrilled if 2K22 was a repeat of 2K15.
Back then, 2K struggled to get to grips with new hardware and released an empty shell of a title onto PS4 and Xbox One. The newer versions removed several features, and it was considered a 'lesser' product by fans who'd been duped into thinking they were going to get a brand new, revolutionary experience.
Gilmore acknowledged that flub and said that 2K22 may not land on PS5 or Xbox Series X as a result. Reading between the lines, it sounds like Patrick and company are keen to explore what's possible on the coming systems, but they'd like to launch on current consoles first and take it from there.
Admittedly, it's a bit of a shocker to think that a game slated for release in late-2021 might not make it to consoles launching in late-2020. To some, 2K22 will feel old hat immediately because of that. This is a risk the team are willing to take if it means avoiding the same serious backlash 2K20 received from all corners of the gaming globe.
