WWE 2K22: 10 Things We Already Know
2. Why Custom Music Is Still A Problem
Custom music is similarly tricky.
Fans have wanted to know for years when they'll be able to load in music from services like Spotify and use it in-game. Gilmore understands why players want to do this, but noted that it's impossible when original artists retain the rights to sync "pictures" with their music. 2K can't let someone change Drew McIntyre's theme to a Metallica track, for example, without express written permission from the band and their publishers.
He did say that 2K and VC are exploring whatever possibilities are open to them here. It might be possible to let players use their own music for the menus and other parts of the game, though 2K22 is unlikely to add the option for customisable, real-world entrance tracking.
There you go. It's all about copyright, as per, and the developers would have to fork over massive bundles of cash to every band gamers wanted to use if they were to go down this road. It's a logistical nightmare, and one 2K/VC would prefer to stay away from.
Fair enough.
