WWE 2K22 Review: 4 Ups & 4 Downs
2. DOWN - MyFACTION Seems Pointless
So here we are, the real moneymaker of the title, 2K's MyFACTION, a mode dedicated to microtransactions in which you can build your own stable of thoroughbred wrestlers with which to take on the world and complete challenges to earn rewards which in turn can buy you better talent.
It's a gameplay loop as transparent as its clear desire to hoover the change out of your wallet through the purchase of randomized packs that offer boosts and new wrestlers to your pool. However, despite this, the one thing many didn't see coming was the fact that this game is entirely single-player, which in turn begs the question, what's the long-term goal of this mode?
The one saving grace to the utter torrid wasteland of pay-for-players that is Ultimate Team from the FIFA series is that you can at least take your freshly minted group on a world tour against other players, or trade cards with them, but here? What's the point? To pay for a group that I can't even show off to my friends?
Now, 2K has been quick to point out that all packs can be earned and paid for by completing challenges and that you'll never need to shell out a dime, but that's hardly a plus when the endgame of the mode itself is bereft of direction.
So, in short, it's a mode that works, has the potential to be fun, but at time of writing is stuck in a bubble of its own waft.
