WWE 2K23: 10 Things To Know Before You Buy
6. Showcase Is A Bit Different This Year
Traditionally, gamers play as the spotlighted wrestler in Showcases. That’s been the case for every one of these fan favourite modes 2K has produced to date, but 2K23 does things a little differently. Cover star John Cena’s journey is a unique one, because you don't play as the WrestleMania 39 comeback king himself.
Nope, you play as his opponents.
This is a big change for Showcase. Cena's mode is all about his biggest defeats, not his biggest wins, and there's set to be loads of interview footage with the legend talking about each loss. Expect lots of dry humour and witty remarks in those cut-aways, people.
Classics vs. Rob Van Dam, The Rock, Kurt Angle, The Undertaker and more will be playable. 2K is also bringing back the celebrated "Slingshot Tech" from last year; that's the snazzy switch between gameplay and real-life footage from the matches that made everyone's eyes pop last year.
In short, just know you won't be playing as Cena in 2K23's Showcase.
