WWE 2K23: 8 Gameplay Details You Need To Know
7. New Optional Pinning System
The pinning system remains your writer's enemy in the WWE 2K series. Updated in WWE 2K22, the new system saw a return to the button-mashing mini-game in order to escape a pin; previously, it was a game of strategy that saw players aim to stop a blue bar in the correct area of a circle to kick out.
Though details are currently nonexistent, it's been confirmed that a new "optional pinning mechanic" has been added to WWE 2K23. Whether this is a take on the old strategic system, a variant of the current button-mashing game, or indeed something entirely different remains to be seen. A showcase event for the game is scheduled for 28 January ahead of the Royal Rumble, so expect this to soon be revealed.
Details of a new pinning system were first reported by trusted insider Mike Straw, who had stated in November that there were rumours of this system making their way to WWE 2K23. This was noted as being the "only larger gameplay change" made.
As of publication, there's no word on if the submission system has been updated, too, although "accessible controls" are expected, indicating an overhaul on some of the trickier controls to master.
