WWE SmackDown Here Comes The Pain Remaster: 10 Things It Must Have

3. An Emphasis On Retro WWE Lore

Bryan Williams knew exactly what he was doing when he tweeted out that Yukes' staff had been ploughing through match after match on Here Comes The Pain. He was speaking to a specific audience, one that doesn't jive with the way wrestling video games play now. Those same people are nostalgia fiends.

A HCTP remaster or update would need to place emphasis on retro WWE tropes. This is a golden opportunity for Yukes and 2K; the latter's series could become the place to go for newer/younger fans, whereas Yukes' offshoot series would be a haven for the old-school gamers who fancy reliving their youth and seeing legends outside 2K's simulation gameplay style.

Of course, licensing the original HCTP roster would be pretty impossible in 2019, and it's not like Yukes are going to include Chris Benoit. They don't need to. There are enough legends of the past they can use that'd fit into some nostalgic dreamland for older players.
