Xbox/Bethesda Acquisition: 8 Predictions For What Comes Next
4. All Major Bethesda DLC Will Be Timed Exclusives
Considering they have demonstrated mixed messages on how open they are willing to make their shared 'ecosystem', it is difficult to call whether Microsoft will play hard and make all Bethesda products exclusive, or if they'll keep some key titles for themselves and still make money from cross platform releases.
If they opt for the later (which is probably the more likely option), you can expect major DLCs (think Fallout 4's Far Harbour or Skyrim's Dragonborn) to be timed exclusives to Microsoft systems.
Such a strategy would seem to be the 'best of both worlds' option: the Xbox ecosystem would still disproportionately benefit from having major content drops first, but Microsoft would still make extra dough from the back end when the content eventually launches for Playstation versions.
In terms of a win-win situation, from the business's point of view, timed exclusivity of major DLC is definitely a route to take. And considering the potential for Game Pass and Game Pass DLC discounts to factor in as well, and the idea seems very plausible indeed.
