Xbox Game Pass: 10 Best Horror Games You Must Play

5. Alien: Isolation

A killer concept (sorry) has you take control of Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda, who boards the space station Sevastopol in search of clues to her mother's disappearance.

Unfortunately, there just so happens to be a Xenomorph on board, and the game quickly evolves into survival horror.

Creative Assembly has crafted an atmosphere of pure terror in amongst its retro throwbacks to the cinematic style of the first two Alien films: all the tech looks grimy, there's a great replica of the Nostromos to walk around at the beginning, and the start-up 20th Century Fox and Sega logos even get a nostalgic makeover.

The real appeal of Alien: Isolation, however, is its titular Alien, who has you pulling out your motion detector in reactionary fear at every bump and clank aboard the Sevastopol. You get other tools to help you survive against the Alien, but none of them will ever make you feel truly safe, as the Alien can't be defeated.

Other enemies roam the space station, but they are one of the weaker aspects of the game. Like the synthetic Worker Joe's, who have a satisfyingly eerie look to them, but are incredibly annoying to fight or evade.

The high tensions of being stalked by a Xenomorph outweigh any negative aspects of Alien: Isolation, and its a must-play for any horror fan.
