Xbox One: 5 Brilliant Uses Beyond Gaming

3. Cable Integration

This was already revealed during the Xbox One Reveal last May, but did anyone catch on to it? For the record, Microsoft wants users to experience television in a way like never before; fully integrating the home theatre into the Xbox One experience. As previously announced, Microsoft designed the console to act as a pass for cable set-top-boxes in your living room, so users can display the live feed from an app on the UI. Although viewing cable programming on the Xbox One's UI sounds cumbersome, it's quite simplified; just hook up the set-top-box to the console with a HDMI cable, then configure the console to recognize and utilize the cable provider and you're good to go - but that's just the beginning. Thanks to the UI's snapping feature, users can switch from full screen to side screen viewing to make room for other media. All of this looks neat and runs seamlessly on the UI. And to top it off, users also have the luxury of integrated voice controls. While many have made fun of the feature's obvious shortcoming - the Xbox One requires a set-top-box rather than receiving and processing cable alone - it still manages to successfully transform the console into the most advanced home theatre system on the market.
