Xbox Scarlett: Every Major Rumour & Leak You Need To Know
5. Both Systems Will Have 1TB SSD Hard Drives
It's not remotely shocking that both Lockhart and Anaconda will likely come with 1TB hard drives.
After all, the potentially disc-less Lockhart will need a wealth of hard drive to store all those digital downloads, and the Anaconda's higher-fidelity visuals may well require space-hogging texture packs.
But the kicker is that both Scarlett consoles may feature Solid State Drives (SSD) as a standard, which would be a first for games consoles and potentially afford Microsoft a massive advantage over Sony.
Anyone who's ever used an SSD can attest to how much faster they are than a conventional Hard Disk Drive, and in gaming terms this can severely reduce loading times as well as ghastly texture pop-in.
Given that Sony may well forego including an SSD in the PS5, if Microsoft takes the plunge it would give them one very obvious technical edge, though it would also come at a not-insignificant production cost.
As such, it wouldn't be at all surprising if the SSD was ultimately only included for the Anaconda, because with Lockhart's emphasis on streaming, an SSD really isn't as much of a selling point.
Though a hard drive upgrade is one of the few aspects of a console's hardware that players can alter for themselves, giving players an SSD right out of the gate would prove that Microsoft really means business.
