Xbox Scarlett: Every Major Rumour & Leak You Need To Know
4. Scarlett Will Have Extensive Backwards Compatibility
Microsoft has done a fantastic job this generation of implementing consumer-friendly backwards compatibility initiatives for the Xbox One, allowing gamers to play as many of their previously-purchased titles from the Xbox 360 and original Xbox as technically possible.
Leaked details about the Scarlett systems indicates that Microsoft will carry this compatibility over to the new consoles, with every single game playable on Xbox One - including all the 360/Xbox legacy titles - also working on Scarlett.
Given that the Xbox One allows players to convert their physical legacy games into digital versions by simply inserting the disc into their Xbox One console, it'll be interesting to see how the possibly disc-less Lockhart will reconcile this.
It's been rumoured that Microsoft is already preparing a disc-to-digital program for the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition which would allow owners to take their physical media to participating stores and convert them into a digital form (most likely a download code).
It's totally plausible that, if true, this procedure would also be used for Lockhart. Either way, given that backwards compatibility has been one of the Xbox One's biggest edges over the PS4, they'd be foolish to let up for next-gen systems.
