Xbox Series X: 4 Ups & 4 Downs After 4 Months

2. Only ONE Exclusive (And Nothing Planned Until Halo)

At some point you have to wonder just what the hell Xbox were doing across the last 8 years - though Phil Spencer saying Microsoft almost canned the brand altogether likely took a LOT of meetings and specific plans to fix.

Still, that turnaround has focused on dynamite hardware with various automatic improvements for your library of games, and a monthly value proposition literally no one can argue with.

What Xbox DON'T have, and now we're over a decade into the conversation on, is a roster of must-play exclusives.

They have exclusives to come, don't get me wrong, but they're still "another Halo", another Forza" or "another Fable". Even Perfect Dark is coming back, rather than new studio The Coalition work on a fresh IP.

If nothing changes, 2021 will remain a totally barren year for Xbox, with Halo Infinite eventually releasing in November. Game Pass subscriber numbers are almost at 20 million so there's no big reason to alter course - but that also means if you already own the titles being given away and don't care about 4K, HDR and frame rate upgrades, there's little reason to invest.
