Luckily, the Lore Friendly Character Pool mod is available, a mod which provides over thirty unique characters to the game, all completely lore-friendly with extensive back stories and characteristics. If you just want to play a campaign and not spend too much time personalising your own team of elite alien obliterators, then this is the mod for you. The mod is always being updated to include even more unique soldiers, and despite a few typos and spelling errors here and there, the character biographies are serviceable enough to warrant a recommendation.
