They're not the most deadly adversary in the game, but they can cause you a lot of problems when trying to take down more pressing threats; they have the ability to give their comrades back their hit points, and they're usually incredibly protected. However, there is a method for dealing with a Shieldbearer relatively quickly, without wasting too many turns or relying on multiple squad-members. If you attack one using a Specialist soldier, equipped with a Mindspike, you can effectively neutralise a Shieldbearer with just two moves. First, you make the attack, and then you hack the brain. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it can really make the difference during a tense skirmish.
