Yu-Gi-Oh: 10 Best Signature Monsters From The Anime

5. Elemental Hero Neos

In many ways, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX's Elemental Hero Neos is this instalment’s Dark Magician - as it shares almost the same stats as the King of Game's signature card. Likewise, it's also a vanilla monster only made powerful through the use of extra support cards.

Of course, Jaden had support cards for his ace monster aplenty, especially relying on Neo-Spacian monsters to perform 'Contact Fusions'. This was a new type of Fusion Summoning which didn't require the use of Polymerization and, in many ways, acted as a prototype for the later created Synchro Summoning.

By fusing with (relatively weak) Neo-Spacian monsters, Neos upgrades into more powerful versions of himself, gaining much-needed effects. While these abilities vary in utility, the facts that Neos was shuffled into the deck during the Contact Fusion (instead of the Graveyard) and the resultant Fusion likewise bounced to the Extra Deck during the End Phase meant that Neos didn't see a lot of play.

Nevertheless, Neos' overwhelming presence in the anime has solidified him into a fan-favourite character worthy of this list.
