The earliest obstacle in Breath of the Wild is the climate. You need to know how to fight against it.

The quickest way to fight against the cold is to cook Spicy Peppers into any of your meals, which gives cold resistance. The permanent way of dealing with the cold is to get the Snowquill outfit from Rito Village, which provides full cold resistance.

In the Gerudo Desert, the main threat is the heat. Hydromelons that can be found throughout the desert can be cooked into meals to provide temporary heat resistance, but the permanent solution comes from buying a certain disguise for 600 Rupees from the man dressed as a women on top of the Bazaar. This disguise lets Link traverse the Gerudo Desert with no problems.

The fire of Death Mountain is also difficult to fight. To access these areas, Link will need to buy fireproof elixirs at the Foothill Stable. In the Southern Mines, talk to the traveller near the entrance to trade him 10 Fireproof Lizards for his fireproof helmet. These lizards can easily be found in the South Mines, and the rest of the outfit can be purchased in the Goron Town to get full fire resistance.
