Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - 10 Things We Learned From The New Trailer

8. NPCs Can Fend For Themselves

Something else that's exciting about the NPCs in Breath Of The Wild is the fact that they can now fight for themselves. Getting excited about NPCs might seem odd, but Zelda NPCs have historically been fairly uninteresting, rooted to a single spot so they can regularly grunt at Link. After the bridge scene, the trailer moves to a shot of two villagers taking on two armed moblins.

Link is nowhere to be seen, but the sequence also isn't a cut scene, so it appears to suggest that it's entirely possible for villagers to take on enemies independent of the player. This would make sense if they'll be travelling across the land on their own.

Another possibility is that Link may be able to recruit villagers to aid him in combat. After all, we know from the game play shown thus far that Breath Of The Wild will be a brutal challenge, with enemies doing way more damage than ever seen before (some of whom can even one-shot Link).

Recruiting villagers would be a nice, optional way to alleviate this challenge.
