Zelda: Link's Awakening Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Pick-Up Text Every.Single.Time

Admittedly, this is a rather small negative, however as stated previously, my biggest annoyance in this game (which was also present in entries such as Twilight Princess every time you picked up a new colour of rupee), is slow, unskippable text that appears every time you pick something up.

Often when you defeat an enemy, it will drop either a glowing Piece of Power, or a Guardian Acorn. These pickups increase your attack and defense power respectively, and they cause you to glow with a fierce colourful light and run to the beat of an intense music track.

Every single time you pick up one of these items, Link's Awakening feels the need to remind you exactly what it does, because the glowing red/blue light apparently isn't a hint enough.

It actively puts me off going near the things.
